Web Design Trends 2020

it’s that time of the year again so in this video we’re gonna go over the
design trends that you need to know for 2020 for your ux ui designers and how
you can apply them to your work I’m gonna be applying these in my own work
I’m quite excited about it dark modes in there let’s go hey guys
welcome to the channel I’m Antony Conboy
my passion is to make you a better designer over the last 10 years I worked
some of the world’s biggest companies been making some great websites and apps
and I’ve lived some the best designers around so my mission now at this stage
of my career is bring to you some of the knowledge of land and make you a better
designer so think about subscribing hit the notification bell or you’ll do is
you’ll get a message every time we publish new content and I promise you
its content you won’t find anywhere else let me know in the comments where you’re
from I’ve seen in the analytics is people from all around the world I
really want to get to know you guys we’ve all that out the way let’s get
going guys I’m going to jump straight into the
first trend which is monochrome a couple of years ago around 2017 2060 and
Spotify really created this really good cool craze in the industry em it was
like duotone colors so I’m just gonna share my screen now it’s just reading
through some some research of this and this was a case study by the DNI D
Awards and it was looking at some of the things that Spotify did so you can see
just top them in today so duotone was all about applying two different colors
basically to a website stripping it right back to the essentials and give
like this really fresh feel into the industry so every year’s industries go
through different ships but Spotify really created this duotone thing and
then I was looking at some research so I bought a poster recently so I’m in the
into the Beatles and I got this George Harrison poster here in the bottom left
and these were these were posters from the 60s by a photographer called Richard
Avedon and you know looking at all of these these are all zero-turn pictures
so it’s not something that’s brand new Arcos and cycles had to come back around
but now this year what we’re looking at is we’re looking at monochrome so I
found monochrome is basically it comes from an ancient Greek
meaning basically just means it’s means single so it’s a single color so
designers like the strip things back they’ve stripped your tone back got the
single color and now it’s applied to website so this example from red so here
you can see red is the overall color on the website there’s bit of red in the
images it’s not monochrome doesn’t mean it’s the only color no matter what it
means predominantly red throughout the website and I’ll show you a couple of
other examples here here’s one by orbit which is an AI platform so you can see
you know they’ve got the blue background going on they’ve got different shades of
blue in the buttons they’ve got dark blue here and actually
blue is literally the only color that people using this website they can do it
because they haven’t use photography and they’ve used illustrations but one more
example I’m quickly going to show you is the New York Times food festival website
so here you go Red’s the color again there’s black used
then there’s red there’s like a red hue applied over this image then we go down
you know you can see the red standing out everywhere on this website even
though you know there are different colors used in photography as I said
it’s not the only way to do it but this real strong graphic style monochrome
seems to be all the rage this year and then here’s one here’s one last example
so my favorite color is this bright vibrant orange and I found this really
cool website that’s actually using it quite a lot so here you can see they’ve
taken it to an extreme so see the images here what they’ve done is they’ve
applied like basically a red filter over the images so not only is the color red
really vibrant in the background but it’s standing out on all the images as
well so there’s a couple of different ways you could take it you could you
could play filters over images or you could just use red standing out in
images apply hue/saturation and Photoshop and bring it out but
monochrome seems to be here and it seems to be one of the big trends going into
2020 okay guys now I’m jumping into number two which is dark mode so this
gets me really excited this is a this is something I’ve been pushing for in the
industry for the past couple of years and something that I’m seeing more and
more of and I think I think there’s a load of
reasons to be excited about this so one of the main reasons that this is getting
popular this year is basically because the screen
everyone’s using over the past years has multiplied so much that a lot of people
get an eye problems so developers about this for years because of the amount of
time they spend on screens you know you’ve all seen the matrix
where they have a black background and green text all dark mode is it’s it’s
essentially there’s two reasons why people do that one of them is it’s easy
on your eyes a lot of people like me sit in a dark room all day on a computer the
white background with the black text and the blue links really strange your eyes
so you know you have a dark grey background it makes it more subtle it
makes it more easy and the other reason is with the invention of OLED displays
the way they work is whenever you have a black pixel on display it means that the
screens actually off that’s how to get such rich blacks compared to like LCD
panels or everyone’s you probably see and so the reason I’m starting on the
watch on the screen now is because when Apple this year unveiled the new watch
and they said okay they’ve gotten always-on display what essentially how
they did that is by having a dark mode theme so looking at these free here so
50% of the screens essentially switched off instead of having a white background
they got all this black background it looks cooler and it saves a hell of lot
on batteries so with all the wearables coming out there’s no one that are dark
mode was really taken off especially as OLED displays come to like IMAX and come
to different screens I really see the dark theme playing a big part in energy
saving and I’ve done a great job of dark theme on the website but there’s
actually something I wanted to show you which is something I’ve just discovered
recently there’s a plug-in called night.i
which you can put on your air you can put on Google Chrome and what it does is
it can force every website to stay in dark mode so see the way I’m just
flicking between dark mode and light mode on this website now so this is
Spotify Spotify seems have nailed the dark mode they are there on the app a
couple of years ago nice big black chunky buttons these I’m going to talk
about them in in a future a future trend in this but these bright Pink’s these
bright greens they really pop in at the moment they stand out great on a
background this website from Google here Dead Fest 2019 they’ve done a great job
a nail in the dark the
I’m out here see how amazing these Blues stand out colors just pop it’s so easy
on your eyes a guest developers appreciated more which is why they’ve
gone for this fee and by default on this website but yeah dark mode is here to
stay especially when we pair it with the next trend which is vibrant colors so
when you pair this with dark mode it’s pretty unbelievable the results that you
get to be honest so on the display at the moment what I’m taking a look at is
Apple’s new website for the pro Display X they are and as you can see they’ve
gone for these really really really neon type colors here so this is quite a cool
website actually as I scroll down it goes into this actually version of the
display but take a look at that so they’ve got some yellows in there some
oranges some Pink’s and I know this actual website isn’t in dark mode but
you can really see these like almost like ultraviolet cover the colors coming
through this year and this needs to be a theme quite you know I’ve seen this on
quite a few websites now where they seem to be used now I’m just gonna go across
and I’ll show you em I’ll show you another website which seems to be using
this which is Google material design language so the reason it really worked
is because when you have a black background traditional colors that we
use on websites sometimes don’t really stand out as much so it’s nice for a
change actually to see some Purple’s come on and see some blues coming in so
the material design language is a UI set made for designers and developers from
Google it’s a it’s free to take a look at the websites material IO and you know
as you zoom down here you can see they’re actually using these pink accent
colors on the background so along with the black there’s some Gray’s and it you
know along again the monotone there seems to be like one color used in the
majority of the website some green sneaking in I know my work I’ve used
quite some like electric blues this year and when you pair it with a dark mode
and you use some really cool nighttime photography maybe where someone’s waving
a pen with some neon colors in there and you know you can you can make some
really cool things and I see this being a big trend
guys let me know in the comments below which one
favor design fen was for 2020 maybe you hate dark mind I’d know you’ve probably
got some other ones that I haven’t thought of so drop them in there
a baby conversation gets quite easier because I know a lot of people are
passionate about some of this knowledge if you’re interested in and some more
about UX and UI head on over to school that anton newcombe boy comm I have a
free essentials course it’s about one hour you’ll get a certificate at the end
of it and it’ll basically teach you all the foundational knowledge that nobody
else really shares that you need to know and it’ll make you a better design and
going forward if you liked the video please give me a thumbs up guys if you
haven’t already subscribe I’m going to be doing weekly videos like this my
missions to make you a better designer and you won’t want to miss out when I
publish new content so yeah don’t forget to ring the notification well as well
