Hi and welcome to this setup guide for one of Communicator 5.3’s new features… Launching Files from the homepage. Now the really great thing about this feature is that it’s not only files we can launch, we can also launch programs and web activities using the same method and i’m going to show you how to do all three of those within this video. When we do this, Communicator automatically minimizes and launches the file with the default program. At the same time, Windows Control opens automatically when the file launches. so in order to add a file, the first step we have to go to is “all page sets”. Once you press “all page sets” we can then select “other files and applications” and here you will see that we have different file locations on the left hand side. If I want to select the file from my desktop I simply select desktop and then all of the files that are currently on my Windows desktop will then be visible within this panel here and if i select the file and press the tick to confirm, you’ll see that the file is now available within the Communicator homepage. If I want to add a program shortcut to my Communicator homepage I follow the exact same step and again that is starting with “all page sets” then “other files and applications”. and once I’ve done that I can navigate through the different locations on my computer in the same way as I did for adding a file. I can choose the program I want to add and then that is also visible from my communicator homepage. If I want to add a web activity to my Communicator homepage there are additional steps i have to go through so i’m going to go over that with you now. The first step you have to go to here is to exit Communicator and once we’ve exited Communicator we can open up our web browser. It doesn’t matter what web browser you’re using. The important thing is that you’ve got a web activity you would like to access through Communicator loaded in your web browser and you can copy the URL of that, go to your windows desktop right-click on the screen, press new and shortcut you can paste the URL and press next and then give your shortcut a name. It is important to note that the name you gave your shortcut here is the same name that the web activity will have within Communicator and now you can see I have my shortcut here and if i navigate back to Communicator then I can go to “all page sets”, “other files and applications”, navigate to desktop and I can see my “melody maker” shortcut. Press the tick to confirm and no we can see that we have the file, program and web activity all visible within the Communicator homepage. So if I select the file then you can see that as soon as I clicked on it Communicator minimized and Windows Control opened automatically. Communicator is still available in the Windows tray at the bottom, so i can click Communicator to go back to it and if i press the web activity it opens in the exact same way with Windows Control on the left-hand side and with Communicator still visible in the Window street that we can navigate back to when needed.
