MU Libraries Homepage Tutorial: Quick Links Section

The MU Libraries homepage is your gateway
to the library’s information resources. The “Quick Links” and “Looking For?” sections at the bottom allow you to access
the most commonly used resources of the library’s website. “Contact Us” allows you to get in touch with
a librarian right away, search through a frequently asked questions page, or look up a person
in the library staff directory. To search for an immediate answer to your
question, start typing it out in the search box. The database will automatically suggest questions
as you type. From this page, you can also connect with
a librarian through calling, texting, email, or live chat. Back in “Quick Links,” you will also find
links to renew a book, request an item, or reserve a study room. The study room reserve page also contains
a calendar if you’re meeting with a group who has already reserved a room and you want
to check on where you are meeting up. “Classic Catalog (MERLIN)” takes you to the
library’s catalog. It’s similar to the “Books & Media” tab in
the middle of the homepage but it has more advanced searching features. The quick link “Try these resources first”
contains shortcuts that cover topics like current and controversial issues, locating
news and newspapers, and research strategies. “Research by subject” takes you to a list
of all our subject guides. They’re a good starting point for searching
specific topics or disciplines. “Course Guides” are similar to subject guides
but course guides focus on research tools for a specific class or course assignment. “English 1000 Guides” are tailored to particular
topics chosen by instructors of those courses, and they provide research tools for those
topics. The “Course Reserves” link will allow you
to find books, articles, and other resources on reserve for a specific course. The “Looking For?” section is a list devoted to quickly taking
you to the exact information you need. Here you can search for a database, a journal,
an article, or a book. If you’re not sure about how to look for specific
types of materials, use the “How do I find?” link. This takes you to a list of types of materials
that will navigate you to further guides, pages, or tools. The MU Libraries homepage connects you to
the library’s resources and the people that can help you with your information needs. If you have any questions about the site or
would like research assistance, you can always contact the reference desk at Ellis Library.
