Getting to Know the Library Homepage. This video will focus on the library’s website and about important services that can be found there. Library.wayne.edu is the homepage and gateway for library resources such as books, journal and magazine articles, and other academic resources that your professors will expect you to use for your assignments. To quickly search much of the library’s collections, type a keyword, phrase, author, or book title into the QuickSearch bar. Your search results will be organized into categories such as ‘Books and Media’, ‘Journals’, ‘Articles’, and more! You can also start your search from the library homepage by selecting an article database, searching the library catalog, or searching e-journals in the list of quicklinks at the top of the page. Databases are resources licensed by the library and are not freely available through a web search engine. The Catalog allows you to search books and other print or electronic materials owned by the library. E-journals allows you to search all the journals Wayne State has access to by title. In many classes at Wayne State University, a librarian will provide a library research session to introduce you to library databases and other resources. Clicking Research Guides takes you to guides curated by our subject specialist librarians and include the best library and Internet resources. These guides are also linked in Canvas courses. Just look for the Library Resources link in your course site! As we get to know the library homepage, let’s make note of some important services and information that can be found on the library website. Your library account can be accessed by clicking Sign In. The My Library Account link will lead you to the login for your personal account with the library. Use your Access ID and password to log in to your library account. Once you are in your account, you can see a list of books you currently have checked out and renew those books online. The library system will notify you by email with information about articles and books you order from other libraries, as well as fines that you may owe or reminders to return books. You can check your personal information by clicking on the ‘Modify Personal Information’ button. If your email address needs to be changed, login to your Academica account and update your information there. Those changes will then take effect in your library account. A list of all Wayne State libraries’ hours can be found on the home page. Click to see a list of all the libraries and their hours today. Sign up for a study room in the Undergraduate library by visiting the Study Rooms tab. Information about many other library services can be found in the library menu under Services or Libraries. From the library website you can find out things like how long you can borrow a book, how to check out special equipment (like headphones or laptops) from the circulation desk, and about printing and copying in the library. Other important services to note include the Warrior WRT Zone, which is located on the second floor of the UGL. There you can get individual assistance with written assignments. Appointments are generally required. The Assignment Planner is an online tool that creates a customized time management calendar to help you plan your time and locate resources for any assignment that requires research and writing. You can access the Assignment Planner by selecting ‘Instruction’ from the library menu, and then clicking on the link under ‘See Also’. And, of course, if you cannot find what you are looking for, be sure to ask a librarian by phone, email, text, or chat for 24/7 service using the link below!
