Creating a Porn Themed Video Website for Artists

Hello, Heretical Raven here. This channel reached 100 subscribers, holy
shit, I didn’t ever think we’d ever make it this far. Thank you so much. Even though I kind of know half of my subscribers
are from my Persona 5 second awakenings video and my tutorial on how to get Viva Pinata
working. You know, it’s pretty ironic, they were
some of the easiest videos I made, I put almost no effort into those, I mean I didn’t even
add any commentary to my second awakening Persona 5 video, but that’s my most-watched
video of all time, those were like minor projects, that I barely gave a second thought about. I just kind of did them, because I wanted
them to be there to help someone else if they wanted it and it turns out that people really
like them…I think. By the way this is a new microphone, an Audio
Technica AT2020 with a Scarlett solo pre-amp. Now anyway today I wanted to take a second
today to talk about my future dreams and aspirations and I apologise if you find it a little boring,
I just find it cathartic to share my thoughts with others. And to be honest, it helps me to clarify the
ideas to myself and to question myself, to really think if what I’m doing or thinking
is correct. So if you’ve read the title, you can probably
guess what it’s about. Today I wanted to discuss creating a porn
themed video website for artists, animators and such, but not only that, I wanted to talk
about how you would even attempt such a goal, the challenges and what do you even need? Now you might be like, you’re crazy. You want to create a website like Pornhub
or YouTube as a single person? How could you ever hope to make a website? You’re not in Silicon Valley, you haven’t
got a team, you haven’t got a plan, you haven’t got the skills and you haven’t
got the money. And the biggest challenge probably out of
all of those is I don’t have the money. Because to make people work for you to build
anything, it all boils down to cash, people need an incentive to work for you, to take
you seriously and how do you do that? Cash. But before we get to the practical side of
things, there’s an even more fundamental question that I think needs to be answered. Why? Why do you even want to do this? Is it even worth doing? Well the answer to that is pretty simple,
I’m sick and tired of hearing about people getting kicked off and censored on twitch,
tumblr, youtube, mainstream platforms when they are so talented and brilliant. I hate that there is such a taboo around pornography
when it’s a part of humanity, people have sex and there’s nothing wrong with masturbation. To say that porn is wrong when you have had
sex and sex allowed you to be alive is the highest degree of hypocrisy to me. So what if somebody masturbates? It doesn’t affect anyone else and it’s
not a shameful act. That said, I will admit there are issues around
pornography such as objectification of females and sexual exploitation which I think are
both disgusting and that further action should be taken against that. Now, second question, is it even worth doing? And I think the answer to that is yes. Now I’ve been looking into NSFW animators
and artists and currently, there isn’t really a website for them, people are using Google
Drive and Mega to host their creations, which I would say is not very stable and I wouldn’t
trust to back up any of my stuff. A. Because Google Drive’s policy is to delete
any NSFW content. B. Because Mega is kind of dodgy and a host
of a lot of pirated content and is pretty much begging for a DMCA like Megaupload. Even on social media a lot of what they do
and what they post isn’t very secure, by the fact that a mainstream platform just might
choose to censor pornographic content someday to appeal to investors. Also, other websites like gfycat and imgur
officially reject NSFW content, have really low bitrates for video and images and aren’t
really serious video platforms for creators from the lack of any proper interface like
YouTube or Artstation which are creator centric. So people can create a following on what they
do. Now the really obvious question. Why wouldn’t someone just use Pornhub? Do you really want to be competing against
a website giant like Pornhub to host pornographic content? And the answer is really there’s no competition,
Pornhub has the largest share of the audience, so people will upload there, 100% of the time
and although the system is pretty dodgy, I’m pretty sure they give their creators money
from advertising as adshare. And really there’s no competition, because
even if I was able to make a website out of nowhere, which I can’t because I don’t
have the skills or the money, I would be an unknown competitor. Think of it like the competition between Dailymotion
and YouTube or Vimeo and Youtube. Dailymotion and Vimeo are a joke, because
the audience just isn’t there, so anybody who’s serious will never upload there. You really need to ask yourself, especially
in the area of technology. What niche does what you’re creating satisfy? If you can satisfy a niche market, you won’t
have much competition and you’ll make something of great benefit, because no one else is satisfying
that need. So why would somebody use my website instead
of Pornhub? Well, the distinction is what I want to target,
mainly NSFW artists and animators, my dream is that there’d nsfw streams of art, a place
where artists can store their videos and artwork in full resolution. It’s a niche market, because no one’s
seriously aiming for it, no one really wants to be associated with porn, except maybe Pornhub,
but my target audience is slightly different, so serious competitors like Google and Amazon
won’t go within a mile of it. Now that all that theoretical crap is out
of the way, let’s talk about practical implementation. How do you even start to think about how to
build a website let alone something like a porn website? Well, you’ve got a few options, you’ve
got templates like Wix, WordPress or you can build the website from scratch. And I don’t know about you, but anybody
who is serious about their website will build it from scratch or pay someone to build it. Wix and WordPress are kind of a joke, if you
want to build anything of a decent scale and have custom functionality, that’s just not
something you’re going to achieve through plugins for WordPress, it just isn’t unfortunately. I’ve done the research and it’s just very
difficult to implement anything that’s non-standard, which is why I think it is better to do it
from scratch, although it would take a longer time initially. Now this is where you need coding, you can’t
breeze through with no understanding of how it works or else you’re going to hit a roadblock
fast. So which coding languages do you need for
a website? HTML, CSS and Javascript are your basics. HTML is about the structure of the page, CSS
is about the style of the page, so how does it look appearance-wise and Javascript is
a scripting language about interaction so a user can click on something and cause something
to happen. Now I’ve understood a little bit of HTML,
CSS and Javascript through university and had some experience with other languages such
as C# and C++ I’ve seen how much there is to learn. And the advantage of learning coding through
university is that they don’t screw around, they have a structured course that’s usually
a certain quality and they force you to reinforce your learning with assignments. Now let’s be real, you just don’t do assignments
when you’re just listening to an online course, because you don’t take it seriously. When it’s university and there’s the pressure
of failure, that’s when you take it seriously and now that I know a little bit of coding,
there is so much to learn through PHP, Javascript and it can get really advanced. Another thing is you’ll see after learning
multiple coding languages that they’re very similar, all the basics are the same, such
as variables, functions, classes, inheritance, they’re really shared between most programming
languages, so really learning any programming language helps you learn every other programming
language. You also come to understand how to code from
a theoretical perspective. And coding is about breaking a logical process
down into steps so you understand it perfectly yourself and then and only then can you tell
a computer how to do it. Now, in coding your website, people generally
divide it into two areas, one which is called front end development and that’s about the
appearance of the website to the user, user interfaces and such. Then there’s back end development and this
is about everything that the user doesn’t see, how your website operates and this is
where you’ll need to learn a language like PHP to manage databases with an application
like mySQL. But why do you need databases? Where do they fit into the picture. Well databases are used to manage information
securely. Just think of a login system on any standard
website. So you need a username and a password and
a website should store that on a secure database. Just think of that as an excel sheet with
a list of every single username and password for every user which can be updated. So when you type in your username and password,
they will check for that username and password in the database and if it is correct, they
will log you in. We don’t use Javascript as a scripting language
to manage databases, because it’s not secure, anyone can see your Javascript. And you can see this when you right-click
on a webpage and click inspect browser. But your PHP code is a separate file that
isn’t shown to users, the database is private and it needs a password to access. I won’t really talk too much more about
PHP because I just don’t know enough about it and I wouldn’t want to risk misinforming
you guys. And I also need to do more courses and do
more research on it, but it’s a fundamental part of websites. Okay, now that we’ve talked about coding,
which is still a massive work in progress for me and you’ve got all your html, css,
javascript files we need to talk about web hosting. Because although you might have finished your
website, you still need to serve it out to others and you can’t do that yourself. Well you can, by turning your computer or
raspberry pi into a dedicated web server, which listens on a specific port number and
sends out the packets, but it’s slow unless you have the money for a supercomputer and
all the infrastructure surrounding hosting websites yourself, which you don’t. This is why you need a web host. Think about it like paying for rent at a storefront
in a shopping centre, you’ll pay someone else to serve out your website. There are a lot of hosting providers, but
the thing is you need to keep in mind is that they have different prices, uptimes and load
times, which will affect how many people visit your website, along with your content. One of the most popular is Bluehost. But because I’m trying to create an NSFW
website, you also need to keep in mind that some providers won’t support adult content
and you need to look up their policies. Bluehost for example just won’t serve out
adult websites, it just won’t. So something like Hostgator Cloud would be
more appropriate for me because I have looked up their policies and they support adult websites. Now, you also need a domain name, which is
what your website is called for example “google. com” and in choosing your domain name you
need to take into consideration SEO which is search engine optimisation. And they cost different amounts depending
upon how many people want the domain name and are also rented like hosting providers
on something like a yearly or a couple yearly basis. Something to keep in mind is that domain names
sometimes come with hosting provider packages. In choosing your domain name, you should also
take into account search engine optimisation (SEO) as I said earlier. And search Engine Optimisation is how people
will find your website through a search engine. For example, “cats.com” will probably
be searched more often than “catsanddogsandcats.com” which is more obscure, but then again you
also need to consider how much competition there is for the domain name. So you’ve finally got a domain name, and
you’ve hosted your website, but you’re not done, you still need SSL encryption. Any website which handles confidential information
such as logins or credit card details needs this, otherwise, people can see all the information
which is sent to and from the webserver. SSL encrypts what a user sends to a website
and vice versa, through a process of salted hashes that I’m not going to go through. You can tell it’s there because the website
will have a green lock and it’ll have an address of https, that tells you it’s SSL. So the SSL certificate and encryption is a
subscription kind of thing that you need to keep getting. One more subscription charge that you’ll
need is a CDN, which is a content delivery network. And what is a CDN? CDNs are web servers that make sure your website
loads faster for your users. It does this by taking any media which is
very large, such as images and videos and hosting them on their servers which are much
faster, thus speeding up your web page. You also need to go through a selection process
like hosting providers to select the best CDNS here, such as Cloudflare and Akamai,
balancing cost and your needs. And depending on how much data is transferred
through the CDNs it can get more expensive or cheaper. Without a CDN, your website will take ages
to load and users just won’t use your website. And now you have to have good search engine
optimisation through relevant tags and keywords and reputable content and your website is
finally done. But you also need to make it grow now. And if you’ve done your research on Pornhub
and how they came the top they did so through pretty aggressive marketing tactics, buying
out other websites and paying other websites to advertise their site. The problem is as you can see, I don’t know
nearly enough currently to even begin attempting to make a website, especially one with video
uploading capabilities, I just don’t know how to code it. As in, how you would give those videos to
a CDN, plus the huge costs of hosting a website with video which can get really large, very
quickly especially with 4k video, as I know from uploading on YouTube. Now what you need to think about is also how
you’re going to make money. And you can do it through a subscription service
like Vimeo or advertisements on videos or just on your website as part of Google Ads. And the thing I was thinking of was doing
it through advertising on a video, because people just like free things. And I admit I use adblock all time, but otherwise
creators just can’t earn any money. And you’ll have to get a deal with an advertising
company, to advertise on your videos and to give that back to the creators. And really I don’t care about the money
I would rather just be happy if all the money went straight back to the creators. All I want to do is to create an amazing end
product, which may or may not be a really naïve, because I haven’t taken into account
a lot of other things such as the cost of running a website. And that’s how you would even begin thinking
about making a website practically and I only know the basics through a small amount of
research. Please do correct me if I’m wrong about
any of those details, because I actually may be wrong. But that dream of creating a website for nsfw
artists is getting closer. I’m seriously learning about code and websites
through university, but of course, I need to be doing more courses online and just trying
things out. You’ll never get this done, you’re stupid,
you’re an idiot, you’re hopelessly naïve, there’s no way you can do this. I bet a million dollars that you can’t. This is going to be like that pipedream of
that stupid Unity game that you talked about, you’ll never even touch it, you loser. Yeah maybe not, but I’ll try my damndest
to make it happen. And even if none of that ever occurs, I hope
that this video gives you an idea of how to think about making something. Amazon, Google, Apple all started as just
ideas from someone and although it won’t bring you closer to your end goal, every one
of those companies started through someone believing they could do it. At the same time, I don’t want to crush
your dreams, but entrepreneur is another way of saying poor and homeless, because for every
person who does succeed, there is a million behind them that fail. So your idea just has to be better than a
million others. No sweat. You know I haven’t got the skills for making
this website, nowhere near, I know that but I’m passionate about it and I’m young,
so I’ve still got the advantage of age. Sorry for this rant, I just wanted to clear
my head and although no one may ever hear this, I like talking about my future dreams
and aspirations. Thank you very much for being here and apologies
for the weird episode and change of content. You are my lifeblood. Heretical Raven, out.
